Question 1

Are there any paper-saving initiatives carried out within your office e.g. desktop paper saving trays or double-sided printing?
Please select one option only.

Some: we have ‘think before you print’ signs on email signatures and occasionally use old printouts as scrap paper.
None at all.
Multiple: all printers default to print double-sided, there are signs up everywhere reminding us to think about our paper usage, all single sided printouts are used again in the printer and envelopes/jiffy bags are also reused. We also have recycling points at every printer.

Question 2

Of paper used in your office, how much is recycled?
Please select one option only.

Majority, it’s company policy.
Some, we’re all encouraged to recycle but some are more keen than others.
None, we don’t have any facilities to recycle.

Question 3

Are your suppliers currently selected against environmental criteria, e.g. green policy or products with accreditation to recognised environmental standards?
Please select one option only.

No. The bottom line is who can supply the product the cheapest.
To a point. Given the choice between two companies, we choose the one that has policies in place to improve their environmental impact.
Yes. We will reject any company that doesn't meet our criteria for eco practices.

Question 4

How is your office heated?
Please select one option only.

Individual electric heaters.
Central heating throughout.
Minimally, we rarely have the heating on.

Question 5

On a scale of one (not very) to ten (extremely), how green is your office space?
Please select one option only.

Nearer one. We have no recycling facilities and environmental issues are not discussed in any area of the business.
Nearer ten. An environmental audit has been carried out and we have a programme in place to work towards the recommendations made, including supplier selection, heating, lighting and recycling policies.
In the middle. We are encouraged to recycle and switch off electrical equipment at night.

Question 6

You’re going to a meeting in a large city (e.g. London, Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin, Edinburgh) 50 miles from your office. Which of these modes of transport are you most likely to take?
Please select one option only.

None: I’ll arrange a conference call instead and save the journey.
The car: it’s quicker and it’s a door-to-door service. If work expects me to travel, they can at least ensure that my journey is comfortable and convenient.
The train: it’s a bit more expensive and takes a bit more planning, but is better for the environment than taking the car.

Question 7

Would you be happy to get your hands dirty in the name of corporate social responsibility by taking part in local environmental projects, such as helping with beach cleanups, tree planting or litter picking?
Please select one option only.

Absolutely, I volunteer at the local nature reserve already so happy to take the lead on any work that needs doing.
If I had the time then yes, I always like to do my bit for a good cause.
My hands were not meant for manual work: nothing to do with me, I’m out.

Question 8

Do you consider the environment when it comes to lunchtime?
Please select one option only.

I try my best: I sometimes buy organics and try to take a packed lunch each day if I have time.
Yes, absolutely. I make my lunches from home-grown produce and use washable containers for my food and drink each day.
Not really: I drive to the shop each day to buy a pre-packaged sandwich, snacks and bottled drinks.

Question 9

Do you encourage your colleagues to become more eco-savvy?
Please select one option only.

No: I have more important things to worry about.
Absolutely, all the time: protecting the environment is the most important thing that we can do.
To a certain extent: I have done things like show people how switching off monitors saves money on the electric bill.

Question 10

Every company, large or small, has a responsibility to minimise its impact on the environment. To what extent to do you agree with this statement? Please select one option only.

Totally agree: the planet has been here for a lot longer than our organisation.
Agree to a point: but business has to come first.
Disagree: companies that worry about their environmental impact when they should be worrying about their bottom line aren’t going to go very far.
