What happened during Green Office Week 2010?

ad_img_lrg_01.jpgIn 2010 Green Office Week was bigger and better than ever before!

Green news and environmental issues are often hitting the headlines and we know many of you take these very seriously but simply don't know where to start. What makes Green Office Week different is it aims to empower and equip employees at every level to make simple, practical changes that can make a real environmental impact.

Here are some of the activities that took place and were designed to help you turn your office into a green office:

  • Between Monday 26th April and Friday 30th April, organisations were encouraged to think about practical ways in which they could make a difference to the environment. Each day had a unique theme and included Make a Start Monday, Choose Right Tuesday, Waste Not Wednesday, Think Ahead Thursday, and Feel Good Friday. On this website there is information about a range of environmental issues from responsible purchasing and recycling to reducing your carbon footprint. Visitors to the site also could vote for their Top 20 eco products of all time.
  • The exclusive, limited edition Green Offices for Dummies Guide was back and you can still download it from this site! It's packed full of practical hints, tips and case studies with input from a leading Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expert who advises businesses across the UK and Europe with their CSR.
  • Office workers could go online and take part in the webinar led by CSR expert, Nicky Amos and the Green Office Week Ambassadors. It was an eco-friendly and fun way to share ideas and tips with other people in green offices around the country.
  • We also got on our bikes and took to the streets. Using this eco-friendly transport we spread the word about Green Office Week in some of the UK's major cities. Office workers could get their Green Offices for Dummies Guide as well as having the chance to win great prizes.
  • At the end of the week we celebrated a change in the attitude of employees across the UK. Everyone gave themselves a big pat on the back to recognise that they had taken the first steps to make their office greener.

During the five action-packed days to turn over a new leaf, there was a daily theme where you could discover how to make a difference to the environment. The following shows the daily themes and what we were encouraging you to think about.

Monday 26th April - Make a Start Monday
It's time to turn over a new leaf. Green Office Week is all about taking a fresh look at the way you do things and trying some new environmental approaches.

Tuesday 27th April - Choose Right Tuesday
We want you to take time to review your purchasing habits and switch to eco-friendly office products. Reducing your environmental impact isn't just about recycling.

Wednesday 28th April - Waste Not Wednesday
Today was about thinking ‘reduce, reuse and recycle'. What can you do to reduce waste in the office? Look at what you could be re-using and what you should be recycling.

Thursday 29th April - Think Ahead Thursday
Join a webinar with our top Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expert Nicky Amos and the Green Office Week Ambassadors. It's a chance to share ideas and improve your environmental policy.

Friday 30th April - Feel Good Friday
It's time to celebrate with Feel Good Friday. Thank you for participating in Green Office Week. We hope that will you keep up the good work so you continue to make a positive difference to the environment.
